    I'm noticing a trend.

    Carb
    Meat / carb
    Meat
    Carb/meat
    Carb
    Meat
    Carb

My advice is that you start making it so that by volume, 1/2 of what you eat is veggies. They are low calorie, full of healthy stuff, and can keep you full. As it stands, it doesnt looke like you eat any. And no, a sprinkling of pinapple on a pizza doesnt count Razz

I am trying to start incorporating that today. Heading to Extra Foods to buy carrots and apples.

I'm trying to eat protein with every meal, and protein goes well with carbs, since carbs ARE necessary, but I'm getting tired of simple carbs and tuna. Trying to mix up what I eat at work. Carrots + an apple + whey = protein without meat or simple carbs. Yay!

Agreed. Another recomendation is greek salad. So tasty. Or even just peppers with a cucumber.

I have mad hate for greek salad and cucumbers. I just eat the feta cheese off the greek salad. Razz

I DO want to try the tuna wraps Alton made on Good Eats last night. Basically just a big leaf of butter lettuce filled with tuna, garlic, shallots, diced red pepper, and a diced egg, then roll it up and eat it.

I am switching my meat focus back to sardines and herring. They may not be cheaper, but they are lower in fats and sugars, since I only like the pre-flavored tuna (whenever I make it myself, it sucks). And, yeah, apples and carrots. Apples and seafood is still a nearly-complete nutritional balance.

That does sound like a tasty wrap. And i hear ya on the cost of herring. Those brunswick tins are what, a buck at stupid store? Thats cheaper than Mcdonalds for fucks sake. They boggle the mind.

$1.29 at stupid store, which I guess keeps the entire meal below my $1.50/meal requirement. 15g of protein each, 8g fat (1.5 saturated) and 2g carbs (negligible). Hmm!

Just purchased 6lb bag of apples and 2lb bag of carrots.

I'd have to question that as a snack. Arnt you supposed to only get about 20% of your daily calories from fats? Thats 60 of protein, 8 of cab, and 72 from fat.

Mind you, the whey more than fixes that ratio. I have trouble seeing the day as a whole sometimes.

Most of the fats from fish count as "essential oils", and I think are counted separately from daily fat requirements, since they're so much easier to digest. Similar to flax oil. Besides, fish fat is taaaaaaaaaaasty. Nom.

Just be careful with using carrots as your only filler... I ran into some issues with that. Something about how anything past 10,000 units of vitamin a being toxic, and one sandwich sized bag full being 40,000 units. after a couple months my skin started to look a bit yellow and dry. I then decided to look into it, and discovered that i'd been poisoning myself with healthy food.

No, I am well aware of that (Steph loves to tell people that story). I limit myself mostly to one handful of carrots a day, about 6oz. You were taking in a 1lb bag (16 oz) per day. FOOL!

How has the addition of fruit and veg helped with the hunger issues?

    Re: One Year Food Log

Post  Shipwrecked Dictator on Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:01 pm

Well, I didn't really have too many hunger issues before dinner, you just pointed out some nutritional holes in my diet. The real hunger problems occur when I get home, and suddenly there's an entire kitchen full of tasty stuff, and my constant mild hunger makes it hard to resist snacking. I need to buy more carrots for at home. Also, since I don't really like carrots too much, and I'm not allowed dip or anything, when I eat them at work it's actually a huge ego / self esteem boost because it means I'm really sticking to my diet.

Or, to put it another way:

Calvin, go do something you hate! Being miserable builds character.

    Congrats guy.

It starts to get weird after awhile. A couple years ago, a "bad" day for me would be 3500-4000cal. Now a bad day is 2500-3000cal, and the idea of eating an entire large pizza seems like an impossible one. It gets easier as you go, and you seem to be going along pretty good.

A bad day for me now is 3000+, and I've been hovering near 2500 very well for a week straight. I am now paring that down a little bit at work, cutting back where I can and replacing it with fruits and vegetables. Going to be hitting Extra foods today for inspiration.

I dunno about skin color, but I'm amazed how LESS hungry I am, averaged out over the whole day.

Almost as though for our people once ate these strange lifeless life forms, and have grown used to them. Razz

Its amazing how much better they are at filling you up. And at between 0-100cal per very full stomach, they really make it hard to gain weight. how many vegetarians who are mindful of thier carbs end up fat?
